Wow I don't check my credit card statements as often as I should, with all my bills set up to autopay there's usually no need (wrong). I happened to check it a few months ago while in Japan and I caught a strange charge, so when I came back to the states I followed up and had the charge refunded. It was my renter's insurance from the Florida apartment which I vacated and cancelled two years ago.
Yesterday I had another look at my statement to verify the refund, which was there, and spotted another incorrect charge from a different company! It was for the Boston hotel which I had booked for New Year's Eve but then cancelled. I called them on it and they now promise a refund too. Both of these charges I caught completely by chance, I'm going to start monitoring my statements more closely this means I am one giant step closer to being a grumpy old man.
