Dennis and Callie's Visit
Dennis and Callie came up for a visit this weekend. Callie's first time to the city, that means sightseeing is on the agenda.
She is easily amused, it wasn't bad at all.
Started at the Empire State Building after a good night of drinking and some moderate hangovers: 2 hour wait to go up, one mile visibility. We decided to pass. There was a bunch of Croatian artwork on display inside. Crazy thing, my ex is Croatian. Before her I never saw a Croatian exhibit of any sort. Now Croatia is everywhere.
Headed up to Times Square next, Dennis wanted to buy a watch. We were only able to find one guy, he drove a hard bargain and got 25 for a fake Rolex. I'd have paid 10.
Lotta sap.
Looks good though.
Callie's face lit up like a christmas tree when we walked into Times Square, it was cute. They were filming the crowd's response to People's Court out on the sidewalk, so we decided to get on tv. Yay.
Went by Radio City and Rockefeller Center next. We watched the ice skaters, debated whether we should give it a try, decided no way.
Stopped at the NBA store on 5th ave. Dennis could barley contain himself, he was like a child. Here's a shot of him standing next to a life size Shaq doll. At 6'5, Dennis is the tallest guy I know. He looks like a little boy here. With his dolly.
At Central Park we checked out the break dancers for a minute. Split before they had a chance to hit us up for any money, went by the zoo. Callie wanted to go in, and I wouldn't have minded but D was against it. We just looked through the fence at the sea lions instead.
Moved on into the Park a little further, where the Guy was putting on some kind of kiddie show.
I know I'm a little old for that, but it sucked. He held up a big stick and was just like, "Check out the size of this huge stick." Then he put it down and grabbed an even bigger one and displyed it to the kids. They loved it. Callie said, "Lets drink now."
I like her spirit.
We took a cab back to my apartment where I had a couple cases of Coors Light in the fridge. Picked up a pizza and some wings on the way.
Started playing drinking games, Dennis and I didn't remember the rules but Callie is only like 21 or so so they were fresh in her mind.
Listened to the Anchorman soundtrack. Not bad at all, and funny. Will Ferrell can do no wrong. Dennis had Jay Z unplugged, together with the Roots band, it was tight. I got a copy. We drank all the beer, and were impressed with ourselves.
Then we went to the bar.
Our original plan had been to have just a few drinks and go downtown, see Battery Park, The Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the big hole where the WTC used to stand. Somehow we got sidetracked. Decided to do that stuff on Sunday.
Left the bar at 5 AM.
Got up Sunday morning at 10 AM.
Still drunk.
We discussed our plans.
None of us moved.
We watched football instead.
Good times.
Stay classy.
